Unity Opto Ships RGB LED Backlight Units

Taiwan-based LED maker Unity Opto Technology has developed RGB LEDs for side-type and direct-type LCD backlight units (BLUs) and has begun shipments of the BLUs for 7-inch car-use displays and 12-inch notebooks, according to the company. In addition, Unity Opto has entered the dashboard lighting market, said the company.

Shipments for the new applications will drive Unity Opto''''s revenues in the fourth quarter, the company estimates. The LED maker generated accumulated sales of NT$1.48 billion (US$44.99 million) for the first eight months of this year, representing a 4.4% increase from the same period in 2005.
